Not gonna lie, at first I only really knew of Jesse Williams from his tweets and candid interviews. Never saw him on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, nor did I know that he’s actually a celebrity which proves he is much more than an actor- practicing what he preaches and vigilantly speaking on stuff that really matters, on and off camera. Unlike so many in his position, Jesse consistently utilizes the soapbox of fame to spread knowledge and ask real questions. He keeps the discussion going. Always a breath of fresh air in a media that continuously shoves disgusting, trivial dirt and lies down our throats. I just… love him.

Jesse recently went OFF on twitter about the death of our sister Sandra Bland. We all know that once you tweet it, it’s out there forever- just so you know he’s real about his actions. He celebrates his birthday today and I want him to have many many more; we need more like him, famous or not. I really hope he doesn’t end up “mysteriously” dead -another inconclusive passing or “senseless suicide”- because of his unapologetic tenacity and outspokenness. Despairing? Kinda. But real.

With the unsurmountable bs in the world today, it undoubtedly can leave a sister feeling very drained [emotionally, spiritually + mentally] and helpless, but we can make some waves if we came together. Take away the “beef” and divisiveness and garbage, and, like Sandra said, social media can be such a powerful tool if we do it right. It doesn’t cost a thing to show support or stand for something.

Love Jesse. He’s so woke. Between him and John (Legend), I get all of my feels. I, too, hope that we don’t lose him to some mysterious accident. Knowing how the US has previously “handled” truth tellers, I don’t want him to be taken away from us.

Yea.. “handled” is a good word. So sad people are too scared or money hungry to realize what great change a few wise words can provoke.

Great post, and you and Sandra are right. Social media if played right, can be so powerful…it’s practically all that is needed to really make a change. I’m smiling at least know that blogs like you are spreading truth and positivity while at the same time provoking thoughts and asking tough (not rhetorical) questions.

Thank you! I try to do my part. It could really makes some great waves of change, but people are too often caught up in the beefs and selfies and fleek game, which is cool, but not all the time.

As always, thank you for reading and your feedback.

yes I loved it! I wish I had that super power too! that reminds of this book I read a few years back: “Karma Girl.” it’s a good, silly read of a young woman who’s super power allows her to do that 🙂
